Ruby Grant, 69, long time resident of Soddy-Daisy, died on Tuesday, July 8, 2003, in a local hospital due to illness.

Mrs. Grant a devoted mother, grandmother and church member was very active in her community. You could always find her on election day either inside the poll as a election worker or outside the poll campaigning for her husband of 51 years. She was an instumental part of her husband career has a Soddy-Daisy City Commissioner and Mayor. Ms. Grant was a member of the Soddy United Methodist Church where she served on many church committees and a long time member of the choir.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Florence McClendon and several brothers and sisters.

Survivors include her husband, Leroy Grant, son Steve Grant code inspector for the City of Soddy-Daisy and Soddy-daisy Fire Chief. Her daughter Sandra is a Register Nurse and son-in-law Terry Carmack of Soddy-Daisy; grandchildren, Meghan and Jonathan Carmack of Sod Daisy. She also leaves her brother, Dennis McClendon of Soddy Daisy; sisters, Viva Moore of Soddy Daisy, Rosa Gibson of Hixson; and several nieces and nephews.

The Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday in the chapel of Williamson & Sons Funeral Home with current Soddy United Methodist Minster, Rev. George Dunbar and former Soddy United Methodist Minster, Rev. Barry Kidwell officiating. Interment will follow in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

Family will see friends from 2-9 p.m. on Wednesday July 9th and then 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday, July 10 Th..

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Building Fund of the Soddy United Methodist Church, 255 Depot Street, Soddy Daisy, Tn. 37379 or to the Soddy Daisy Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 695, Soddy Daisy, Tn. 37385-0695.
