U.T. 2005 FOOTBALL SCHEDULE RELEASE
New University of Tennessee
athletics director Mike Hamilton announced the Volunteers' 11-game football schedule today for
the 2005 season.
A trip to South Bend, Ind., to face Notre Dame Nov. 5 highlights the schedule
that includes eight Southeastern Conference games and two home non-league contests against
Conference USA foes Memphis on Nov. 12 and the season opener against Alabama-Birmingham
Sept. 3. The Notre Dame and Memphis games conclude a two-year home-and-home series, while
it will be the second-ever meeting with the Blazers since first playing in 1998. The Vols renew
their intersectional rivalry next season against Notre Dame in Knoxville.
The four league home games include matchups against Mississippi on Oct. 1,
Georgia Oct. 8, South Carolina Oct. 29 and Vanderbilt Nov. 19.
The Vols open up conference play with back-to-back road games against
Florida and LSU in September, before playing a traditional rivalry game at Alabama Oct. 22. UT
closes out the regular season at Kentucky on
Nov. 26. It will be the first scheduled meeting with the LSU Tigers since the 2001 SEC
Championship game.
The 2005 SEC Championship Game is scheduled for Dec. 3 at the Georgia
Dome in Atlanta. Visit U.T. Sports website for more details and stories.
