THIS WEEK'S AREA PREVIEW

WEEK EIGHT MATCHUPS
Photo

Week eight of the Tennessee high school football season finds two big rivalry games, one a fairly new rivarly finds Ooltewah at Soddy-Daisy, the second game, McCallie and Baylor is a long running tradition in southeastern Tennessee. In addition to these two games, East Ridge travels to Hixson in a region 4 4-A match up.

In region 2-5 A Soddy-Daisy hosts cross river foe Ooltewah Owls. The only two class 5-A high school in Hamilton county are slowly developing a rivalry. McCallie and Baylor on the other hand have been lining up against each other for decades. The late season game is played on Saturday and many other activities are schedule around the game.

OOLTEWAH AT SODDY-DAISY

Twice beaten in region 5-A Soddy-Daisy faces the Ooltewah Owls who bring a 1-3 record in the region to Trojan Field. The Trojans lost on the road last week to the high power running game of the McMinn Cherokees. The Trojans know for their strong kicking game and “ bend but don’t break dense” will try to rebound against the Owls.

The owls who had plans to a good year have had a rough road this year losing three close games. Winning only once in the region and twice overall with victories against East Ridge and last weeks big win against Heritage. Heritage gained nearly twice as many yards as the owls , but Ooltewah hung in with key defensive stops, including a goal line stand in the 3rd quarter.

A good crowd is expected since the Trojans have been on the road for 4 weeks and Oltewah should bring a good crowd from across the river.

McCALLIE AT BAYLOR

McCallie brings it’s 1-2 in Division 2-3A record, 5-2 overall to Baylor in a big traditioniaL rivalry match. The Blue Tornado’s and the Red Raider’s have been playing football for a long time. This is the one game most students and alumni from each school attend. The region and overall records don’t count nor does last years game, only who wins this year. Baylor record is 0-2 in the region and 3-3 overall.

Of course a big crowd is expected and this game as in the past will be on Saturday afternoon instead of Friday afternoon.

EAST RIDGE AT HIXSON

In a region 4-4 A clash East Ridge brings it’s region record of 2-2 and overall record of 4-4 to Hixson in hopes to hang on to it’s 3rd place position in the region. Hixson 1-2 in the region and 2-5 overall are trying to keep out of the region’s basement. Both schools had exciting close wins last week. East Ridge kick the winning field goal with 90 seconds to go, the fifth field goal by place kicker Bert Bandstra to defeat Rhea County. Across town in Red Bank it took Hixson 5 over times to defeat the home standing Lions.

Friday nights game will be at 7:30 at Hixson.
